Saturday morning

Is there a theme to this?
One thing that links all of these images together?
Emptiness.  And full.

Getting rooted in the New Year

I remember reading about/hearing about a tradition that went something like this:
Whatever you do on the first day of the year
will help to establish what your coming year will be like.
So after waking up this morning, the first day of 2013,
I sat down at my desk and wrote.  And tangled.  And read.
And drank coffee.
If there's any truth to that tradition/superstition,
It's gonna be pretty good year.

Let's begin, again...

This morning, I poured myself a big cup of coffee
& sat down at my computer
& told myself:
"Ok.  You're back.  You've made it thru all of the craziness
of the past couple of months.

Breathe.  Return to the present moment.
Begin, again.

Flavor of the month

I visited a coffee shop in Queens today.
The flavor of the month is Raspberry Mocha.
I prefer plain, unflavored coffee.
Straight up--no sugar, no milk.
Strong enough to rip the enamel off of my teeth.
True story.

NYC wakes up

This morning, I sat in a coffee shop in Hell's Kitchen
and sipped coffee
and watched the city wake up.
I could get used to that.

Start

I often begin my day with a cup of coffee.
Ok. I ALWAYS begin my day with a cup of coffee.
Its taste signals the start of a new day.
I prefer to start the day with the taste of coffee instead of the taste of toothpaste.
In Hawai'i, you'll hear people say "sipping the ʻāina." Sipping the land, the earth.
Delicious.
